MEET NERINE KADWILL

About me

Why I became a counsellor

I've been interested in counselling since I was a teenager. I've always been curious about people, their experiences and how those experiences shape who we become.

I spent many years working as a teacher, something I enjoyed particularly because of the relationships I built with young people. But I also became increasingly aware that some of the difficulties people face can't always be addressed in a classroom.

My own life experiences, including becoming a single parent, have also shaped my understanding of people and the different challenges we can face.

Later in life, I sought counselling myself. Finding a therapist I could really connect with made a difference to me. It wasn't an overnight transformation, but over time I began to understand myself better and feel more confident about who I was.

That experience helped me realise that I wanted to become a counsellor.

Today, one of the things I value most about my work is the trust people place in me. I never take for granted the privilege of someone sharing their thoughts, feelings and experiences.

I believe counselling works best when we're able to build a genuine relationship, where you can be yourself and we can explore things together.

How we can work together

I work pluralistically, which means I don’t expect one approach to suit everyone. We’ll work together to find what feels helpful for you, and we can try different ways of working along the way.

I’m interested in getting to know you as a person, not simply focusing on a particular difficulty. Our conversations might be thoughtful and reflective, sometimes challenging, and sometimes there’s room for a little humour too.
